Cimarron Canyon State Park

Beautiful steep walled canyon with a wonderful trout stream running through it. Great setting. We are having rain off and on but enough sun to get out and do things. Living in fleece and windbreakers though!
Couple mile hike in a rugged rocky side canyon. It’s bear country but we haven’t seen any – ok with me I think. Kent rescued a stranded trout that had gotten into shallow water. My hero!
A scenic drive took us through Taos and we (actually probably I first) were drawn to a little bakery. I had a very good blueberry muffin but Kent had a TO DIE FOR cream puff with sweet cream filling. I am not sure I have ever tasted any better. Besides that, the drive was lovely…..seemingly from nowhere in the middle of a mesa that ran forever appeared a gorge, over 600 ft deep and a great bridge that you can walk over. It was a fantastic view…over the Rio Grande no less.
We are heading out of the Canyon tomorrow. As it turns out, not a day too soon. Elk season opens tomorrow. I don’t have any interest in seeing those lovely animals on the back of anyone’s four wheeler or tied to their hood. Time to move on.
