The founder of Pocono Raceway, ”Doc” recently passed away and was a big supporter of the armed forces personnel of the region. Thousands of troops have been guests of the track on race day over the years and today they paid tribute. Music was provided by a large military brass band, the national anthem was sung by a solder, drivers where chauffeured around the track in HUMVees and of course there was the fly-over to conclude the national anthem. They rendered taps in Doc’s honor and provided the gun salute not with rifles but with cannons. Great Tribute!

The Hike
We hiked the Appalachian Trail (AT) up to Sunfish Pond in Delaware Water Gap and took other trails around the pond. We had made such good time we decided to take in the view from Mt Tammany on the way back. It made for a 10 mile day but the real surprise was the last 1 mile down from Mt Tammany. We knew it would be steep since we were dropping 1,000 feet in 1 mile but what we did not know is that it came with long sections of boulder hopping. Oh, and just to keep it interesting, as we arrived at the overlook we could see the wall of rain coming our way. So after admiring the view for a few we began our scramble down the wet slippery boulder fields. It was just a bit of challenge for our already tired legs. Overall it was a great hike though. The original plan was to do this hike in 2 days with an overnight along the ridge, “good plan”! Three days of rainy weather kept us from that option. The trail campsite was beautiful.

Ditched the Trailer and boat
We looked at the schedule and it seemed we would not be utilizing the boat for the next few months, so why drag it all over and complicate campground selection with it’s added size. We’ll pick it up after visiting New England and Nova Scotia. In the mean time, Lynn will be driving the car parallel with the motorhome between campgrounds.

Cactus in the swamp
We continue to see cactus on sandy soil here in Florida. Always thought they were only in the desert southwest.
Wedding
Lynn stayed with the rig while I traveled to WV and the wedding of my uncle Bill to Emma Jane, a classmate from high school. It was great to share their joy with other family and friends both at the ceremony and dinner afterwards. It was a chance to catch up with family and friends. Even squeezed in a short stop to visit a few members of the other side of the family while in the area. It was a good trip with safe and timely travel. With a good weather and roads, the 850 miles were accomplished in one day. Average for the trip 67 mph.
