Historical, artsy Santa Fe

Lots of beautiful old churches and mission buildings and “the oldest house in the nation” built in 1612. Most of the State run museums were closed (they are always closed on Mondays…who knew?) but we saw a great cross section of New Mexico Native art and modern art at the exhibits at the Capital. There were hundreds of shops. We window shopped some but I was chilly so we wrapped it up pretty quickly. We visited the railyard district too. Lots of galleries and cafes. We ate at Tomasitas, very good New Mexico cuisine. Tamales for me and enchiladas for Kent with a sampling of some wonderful red and green chile. Kent’s side was posole, (hominy by any other name is still hominy…not the favorite dish) but the puffy sopapilla bread was yummy with local honey. While out shopping I found jalapeno peanut brittle and a red chili spiced brownie. Fun variations.

It is getting cold….we gotta move south a little faster it seems
There is to be a hard freeze here tonight with sustained winds in the 25 mph range and gusts to 45mph or more. It feels pretty raw here in camp. We are at 8700 ft so a good 10 degrees colder than in town. The ski resorts at 10000 ft and higher are pretty pleased as they are getting their first meaningful snow. As for us…we are in for the night and just put the electric mattress pad on the bed….we are plugged in tonight so we will stay toasty for sure. Morning Temperature was 21.
