On to Las Vegas…New Mexico that is.

First stop was Ft. Union. It is a Santa Fe Trail fort in the absolute middle of nowhere. We had 30 mile an hour wind and a temperature in the 50s so we took a rather high speed walking tour. Still interesting though to see how they handled all those 1000s of wagons through there on the trail and more of the amazing trail of wagon ruts that can still be seen all around the fort. It is well done….

In Las Vegas. You should have seen Kent’s face when I told him they have over 900 buildings on the historical buildings register. We checked out a few. The fancy railroad hotel was pretty cool. We visited the wildlife preserve just outside of town. Not so special. I did see a couple pelicans that really shouldn’t have been there. Got to run the motorhome on the worst road yet, muddy dirt road with lots of ruts and a few very soft places. More like 4 wheeler territory! Just glad to make it out the other end. That diesel engine noise scares about everything off anyway. Future wildlife preserve runs probably better be made in the Miata.
