A covey of California Quail is scratching out breakfast in the gravel and sandburs not 5 feet from me. They jostle for the best foraging space and murmur at each other continuously.  Once in a while the high pitched alarm call goes out, “chi-ca-go”.  They are great fun to watch.

I hope they eat every seed!  Those burs are annoying
