Dry canals and lily-pad-filled lakes met us at Brazos Bend State Park.  It is a place of many alligators.  They seem to be finding places in mud holes and shallow pools to stay cool.  We saw wading birds but ducks seem to have found a wetter refuge.  It is a very different place than when we visited in 2010.
